Beach Body (May 2021)

Every body is a beach body

Beach Body began in May of 2021 with a simple premise. I invited people of all body types to be photographed in swimsuits in the studio, without requirements, preparation, or transformation. The title borrows language from fitness and diet culture, where the term “beach body” is used to imply that some bodies must be altered before they are allowed to be seen.

This first phase of the project was a direct refusal of that idea. By photographing bodies as they already were, the work asserts that no body is unfit for visibility, leisure, or pleasure. These early images set the foundation for an ongoing series grounded in inclusion, representation, and the belief that bodies do not need improvement in order to belong.

What follows are selections from the first month of the series.
