Spooky Shoots
Sexy fun at the edge of fear
Every October, I release a series of Spooky Shoots inspired by horror films and genre tropes. The references range from specific cinematic nods to broader ideas drawn from horror culture, but the goal is always the same: to make work that is playful, communal, and knowingly theatrical.
These images are meant to stand in opposition to horror’s long-standing reliance on violence against women. When women appear in perilous situations, they are framed as agents rather than victims. If a concept requires danger, I try to show that it is being embraced with humor and enjoyment rather than fear.
The season concludes each year with my Bloody T-Shirt Contest, an annual gathering where participants douse one another in fake blood around a campfire. It is a contest in name only. What it actually produces is camaraderie, spectacle, and what many participants have described as a deeply satisfying bonding experience. Every year, everyone wins.
